The event was held in three major cities: Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya, and Tabletoys had been entrusted by Bekraf to host the latter. The talk show was conducted by a panel of experienced board game industry specialists, namely Martin Ang of Tabletoys and Rizal of Hobbies Cafe, Malang. During the event, the panelists shared their experiences and lessons learned from Essen Spiel 2019 as well as general remarks and tips and tricks of the trade to aspiring board game designers who had attended the event. One of the major points from Martin Ang being that board game designers should focus on making their games fun to play, and taking any educational aspects that may arise from the game as fringe benefits. In addition, an appealing theme in a board game is also an important point of consideration. Ultimately, the panel encourages the board game community in Surabaya to play and make more games, especially since there are so many worthy board games and promising designers from Indonesia whose voices are yet to be heard by the world.
The budding board game community in Surabaya has been the lifeblood of Tabletoys since its inception, since Tabletoys was established both originally and within the spirit of that same community. As such, an opportunity to give back to the community is an opportunity the company eagerly embraces. In that spirit, a talk show and sharing session titled Unboxing 3.0: Essen Spiel 2019 was held on November 17, 2019 at Tabletoys Board Game Library. The event was part of a bigger community-building initiative held by Indonesia’s Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf), which follows their previous participation at Essen Spiel 2019 – in which Tabletoys had also taken part
